You can try  this mode of  transport  and you will have a hassle free journey  to  anywhere  in this  city.  This  mode  of public transport in Singapore is fun, fast  and easy.

The Mass Rapid Transit or MRT is a kind of rapid transit system. This  system forms the main structure of the railway system in Singapore. The system  spans across the entire city  state.  The initial section of the MRT is situated between Yio Chu Kang Station and Toa Payoh Station. This  section opened in the  year 1987. Thus  it  established  itself as the second oldest metro system in Southeast Asia next  to only Manila's LRT System. The network has since grown far and wide as a result of Singapore's aim of developing a comprehensive rail network. This system now is considered as the main frame of the public transport system in Singapore.  This has an daily ridership average of 1.564 million in FY07and 08 which is about half of the bus network's 2.969 million in the same period.

The MRT which is a mode of popular public transport in Singapore has 70 stations within 118.9 kilometers of lines. The system operates on standard gauge. The rail lines have been constructed by the Land Transport Authority.  It is a department of the government of Singapore. This department allocates operating concessions to the corporations SMRT Corporation as well as SBS Transit that are based on profit. These authorities also run bus as well as taxi services. So in short it can be said this government authority looks after a full integration of public transport services. The MRT is supported by the regional Light Rail Transit which is popularly known as LRT systems. This system links MRT stations with HDB public housing estates. This MTR service operates from about 5:30 am in the morning and usually end before 1 a.m. on a regular basis. The frequency of the trains is three to eight minutes. The services are also extended during festive periods.
